Union Depot | St. Paul, MN
Created specifically for the historic Union Depot, Erased Steps is an evening-length dance theater work by Mathew Janczewski that explores identity, authenticity, societal expectations, and the unseen stories that shape our lives. Set against one of Minnesota's most iconic public spaces, the work juxtaposes the grandeur of the station's architecture with the complex realities of those who pass through it, asking how our lives might unfold if we chose a different path—or were free to live as our authentic selves.
Featuring an original score by Zack Baltich, Erased Steps was performed by Gabriel Anderson, Non Edwards, Dustin Haug, Annika Hansen, Isaiah Langowski, Javan Mngrezzo, Jake Nehrbass, Leslie O'Neill, Betsy Schaefer Roob, and Laura Selle Virtucio, with apprentices Gibran Murrieta, Maeve Seymour, and Allison Wheeler. Through imaginative staging and an evolving movement language, the work transformed Union Depot into a living performance environment, revealing hidden relationships and inviting audiences to reconsider the stories we tell about ourselves and others.
