Monument marked the culmination of 29 years of Mathew Janczewski's ARENA DANCES, celebrating nearly three decades of choreographic work before the organization's transition into its contemporary repertory company model. The evening honored Janczewski's artistic legacy through a collection of signature repertory works alongside a new premiere, reflecting longstanding collaborations with dancers and artists who helped shape ARENA DANCES over the years.
Performed by an intergenerational cast of current company members, longtime collaborators, apprentices, and guest artists, the program celebrated themes of memory, community, resilience, and artistic evolution. Performed by artists Gabriel Anderson, Non Edwards, Dustin Haug, Isaiah Langowski, Sarah McCullough, Kelli Miles, Jake Nehrbass, and Leslie O’Neill. Apprentices: Rachel Holmes and Athena Rodriguez. Rehearsals were directed by Laura Selle Virtucio, with lighting design by Mark Ruark, costume design by Jay Nelson and Carol Salmon, videography by Tamara Ober, and production photography by Bill Cameron.
