ARENA DANCES opens its season with Deluxe, a dynamic repertory evening headlined by renowned Minnesota choreographer Morgan Thorson, who will share her acclaimed work Deluxe Edition. Widely recognized for her interdisciplinary and deeply human approach to choreography, Thorson’s work explores the body as a site of imagination, emotion, community, and place. Her distinguished career has been recognized through Guggenheim and McKnight Fellowships, a Doris Duke Performing Artist Award, a National Dance Project Production Grant, and numerous other national honors.

The program will also feature a remount of Mathew Janczewski’s highly praised trio excerpt from One Room, set to the music of Nils Frahm, alongside a world premiere by Elinor Kleber Diggs, a multidisciplinary choreographer and artist originally from Saint Paul and now based in New York City.

Diggs has quickly emerged as a compelling artistic voice whose work blends choreography, photography, sound, and visual fragmentation into richly textured performance experiences. Recent honors include the Dancing While Black Fellowship, the Baryshnikov Arts Fellowship at Kaatsbaan Cultural Park, the CUNY Dance Initiative, and support from the Jerome Foundation.

Rounding out the evening will be a remount of Shane Larson’s Fish Scale, a physically charged and visually striking work that has become a favorite within ARENA’s growing repertory. The inclusion of Fish Scale reflects the company’s commitment to preserving and revisiting exceptional contemporary works while allowing audiences to experience repertory across multiple seasons.
